In a shop window along my small city’s main street, there’s a big printed sign embellished with the stylized hand that signifies palmreaders and other soi disant psychic services. The text, unnecessary capitalization and all, reads:
PSYCHIC READINGS
Appointment Only
No Drop-Ins
“No drop-ins”? But… but… shouldn’t they know I’m coming in?
There’s a guy at work who identifies himself as a psychic so every single time he asks a question, I have to stifle the urge to respond with, “Don’t you know?”
I refrain because it is likely he’s endured that before and because he doesn’t know that I know he believes himself to be a psychic.
OR DOES HE?
